A sense of belonging is fostered by training together with athletes from various countries, especially Southeast Asia because they are relatively close to each other.
“We are friends who train with each other, visit their countries sometimes. Or they come to our place.
“Sometimes when there is a world championship, we gather together from Malaysia, from Singapore, maybe from Thailand, maybe from the Philippines.”They are not only close as friends, but there are sponsors, there are business partners there,” he added.
Previously, the moment Malaysian coach Mariss Khan hugged Basral Graito after performing the finishing trick at the 2025 SEA Games went viral on social media. The reason is that this trick also determines gold for the 18 year old athlete.
Anthony said that close relationships between athletes and coaches continue to be maintained.According to him, differences in background and country should not be a barrier to celebrating success.
“Not just competing, no.[At the 2025 SEA Games] we only brought the names of the countries, but our friendships in each country, we have close relationships with them too.So there are no boundaries,” he said.
