Samsara
, a film by director Garin Nugroho, can be seen publicly in Indonesian cinemas this month.The film finally received a broadcast schedule after touring several countries since 2024.
Cinema chain Cinema 21 announced that Samsara will be released for free towards the end of November 2025. The schedule was announced more than a year after the film premiered in Singapore on May 10, 2024.

“After traveling to various countries, finally this year Samsara returns to its homeland and brings happy news! Samsara will air starting November 20!”wrote Cinema 21 on social media, Monday (17/11).
The screening in Indonesia is also close to the Samsara screening in Queensland, Australia at the Asia Pacific Screen Forum on November 26.
Samsara had its world premiere on 10 May 2024 at the Esplanade Theaters on the Bay in Singapore during the Pesona Raya Malay Arts Festival.

This film was also screened at the Slachtstraat Filmtheater Ultrecht through Le Guess Who?2025, then screening at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square at the London East Asia Film Festival 2025.
This film starring Ario Bayu also participated in the 21st Jecheon International Music & Film Festival in South Korea, a mini-concert and the opening film of the 2025 ASEAN FIlm Festival in Hong Kong, and several regions in Australia.
Before being screened freely in cinemas, Samsara had a limited screening in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 31 2024, then the Mega Festival Indonesia Bertutur on August 16 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali, and was the opening film of the 19th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival.
Samsara has also been exhibited in the form of a Cine-Concert on 13 – 15 December 2024 at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Taman Ismail Marzuki.
In Indonesia, Samsara has succeeded in bringing home four Citra FFI 2024 trophies, namely Best Director, Best Cinematography Director, Best Music Arranger and Best Fashion Arranger.
Samsara is set in Bali in the 30s, and tells the story of a man from a poor family whose marriage proposal is rejected by the rich parents of the woman he loves.
He makes a magical pact with the Monkey King and performs dark rituals to gain wealth.However, in the process, the ritual actually cursed his wife and children to suffer.
Samsara features many traditional Balinese performance elements such as gamelan orchestra, traditional dance, masks and wayang combined with digital electronic music and contemporary dance and masks.
More people in Indonesia can now see this story because Samsara is showing in cinemas starting November 20.
