With the addition of a number of gold medals, the Red and White Team is now firmly in second place in the 2025 SEA Games medal standings.
Indonesia is far ahead of Vietnam, which is ranked third. This achievement sparked the Indonesian contingent to pursue the target of 80 gold medals at the 33rd edition of the SEA Games.
In fact, Menpora Erick Thohir started to talk about reaching the top two in the 2025 SEA Games medal standings.
“If we succeed in breaking the target, then we also have a big chance of remaining in second place,” said Erick.
A new record will be created if Indonesia can end the 2025 SEA Games in second place in the medal standings.
The reason is, the last time the Red and White Team was ranked second in the medal standings as a visiting team was at the 1995 SEA Games or 30 years ago.
“After (the 1995 SEA Games) we didn’t manage to be in the top two, if we didn’t become hosts. Let’s break our bad record together,” said Erick.
According to Erick, currently the Indonesian contingent is in a positive trend at the 2025 SEA Games because the gold medals won exceeded the daily target. The Minister of Youth and Sports hopes that the team of officials and athletes will have the determination to add gold medals.
“Remember, we are on the threshold of a new history of the SEA Games,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports.
