The remarks came after Macron said this week that he believed Europe needed to reconnect with Putin to find a way to end the war.
“I believe that in our interests as Europeans and Ukrainians, it is important to find the right framework to restart these discussions in the next few weeks,” Macron said.
Macron previously threatened to impose sanctions on Russia if diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine failed.
Macron believes United States (US) President Donald Trump can reach an agreement with Putin about stopping Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
“However, if in the end this process is rejected, we are also ready to say that we need to increase sanctions,” Macron told the media after talks at the White House, Monday (18/8), quoted

Not only about sanctions, Macron also issued a strong warning to European allies not to simply trust Putin.He called the Russian president a “predator” and a “monster at our gates.”
“Putin rarely keeps his commitments. He is constantly a destabilizing force. He tries to redraw the border map to expand his power,” said Macron.
According to Macron, it is unlikely that Russia will return to peaceful and democratic conditions in a short time.
“Putin, even for his own survival, needs to continue ‘eating’. That means he is a predator, a monster at our gates,” Macron said.
