Meanwhile, the Bank Indonesia (BI) Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) reference rate put the rupiah at IDR 16,771 per US dollar in trading this afternoon.

Asian currencies vary.The Chinese yuan rose 0.04 percent, the Singapore dollar rose 0.14 percent, the Philippine peso strengthened 0.02 percent, the Malaysian ringgit minus 0.06 percent, the South Korean won fell 0.16 percent, the Japanese yen rose 0.15 percent, and the Thai baht rose 0.77 percent.
In developed countries, exchange rate movements also vary.The British pound fell 0.24 percent, the European euro plus 0.15 percent, the Swiss franc rose 0.13 percent, the Canadian dollar rose 0.16 percent, the Australian dollar strengthened 0.38 percent.
Currency observer Ibrahim Assuaibi said the rupiah was weakening amidst the prospect that the Indonesian economy in the future would still face major challenges, both from the global and domestic side.
“However, hope for Indonesia’s economic growth remains even though it is faced with challenges that are not easy, both external and internal to Indonesia,” he said

For tomorrow’s trading, he predicts the rupiah exchange rate will fluctuate but will close lower in the range of IDR 16,770 – IDR 16,810 per US dollar.
