Roti O admitted that it had carried out an internal evaluation regarding the viral incident.The evaluation is carried out so that in the future we can provide better service to customers.
“Currently we have carried out an internal evaluation so that in the future our team can provide better service,” wrote Roti O.
Roti O management also apologized for the incident of refusing cash payments.
“We apologize for the incident circulating and the inconvenience caused,” he added.
Bank Indonesia (BI) also responded to the viral Roti O refusing cash payment by a grandmother.
Executive Director of the BI Communications Department, Ramdan Denny, said that everyone is prohibited from refusing to accept rupiah which is intended as payment.This provision is regulated in article 33 paragraph 2 of Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency.
“Article 33 paragraph (2) of Law Number 7 of 2011 concerning Currency regulates that every person is prohibited from refusing to accept rupiah whose delivery is intended as payment or to settle obligations that must be fulfilled in Rupiah and/or for other financial transactions in the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), unless there is doubt about the authenticity of the Rupiah,” said Ramdan in a written statement, Sunday (21/12).
Ramdan said BI does encourage the use of non-cash payments because they are fast, easy, cheap, safe and reliable.Apart from that, the use of non-cash payments can prevent the public from the risk of counterfeit money.
However, due to Indonesia’s demographic diversity and geographical and technological challenges, cash is still very much needed and used in transactions in various regions.
“Using rupiah as a payment system transaction tool can use cash or non-cash payment instruments according to the convenience and agreement of the parties to the transaction,” he said.
A video has gone viral on social media showing a bakery employee refusing a cash payment from a grandmother.The bakery only accepts non-cash payments, such as QRIS.
A man then protested the bakery’s policy after seeing the grandmother unable to make a transaction because she paid cash.
This upload then attracted attention and sparked discussion about the non-cash transaction policy.
