Indonesian lifters,
Rizki Juniansyah
who just won gold
SEA Games 2025
, admitted the snatch record weighing 166 kg was still below his record in training.
Rizki secured gold at the 2025 SEA Games in the men’s 79 kg class after recording a total lift of 365 kg.The 22 year old athlete recorded 160 kg in the jerk and 205 kg in the clean and jerk.
The athlete from Serang, Banten, does not want to indulge his ego in wanting to break the new record in the snatch which is currently held by Egyptian lifter, Abdelrahman Younes with 166kg.He chose to play it safe so he could get the most out of the clean and jerk.

“Earlier I lifted 160 kg [in the snatch] or [for example] lifted 160 kg and 165 kg was still below the record in my training,” said Rizki in Bangkok, Monday (15/12).
However, the gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics admitted that he intended to break the snatch record. However, the coach forbade him to focus on winning medals instead of individual records.
“Yes, because in the snatch you want to break the world record but the coach doesn’t allow you to fill your energy in the clean and jerk,” he said.
“If I follow my will [in the snatch] I could lose [in the clean and jerk] because the Thai athlete lifts 155 [in the snatch] so I need 156 kg. I just increase 5 kg in the snatch so that the clean and jerk is more relaxed,” he added.
Even though he didn’t break the world record in the snatch, Rizki still made an impressive record in the clean and jerk. The 205 kg force that was successfully completed has become a new world record.
Rizki successfully broke his own record which was previously recorded at 204 kg for the clean jerk.Rizki set the previous record at the 2025 World Championship which took place in Norway, October 6 2025.
