Chairman of the Indonesian National Olympic Committee (NOC), Raja Sapta Oktohari named two of Indonesia’s leading lifters,
Rizki Juniansyah
and
Rahmat Erwin Abdullah
, is projected to appear in a different class at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Previously, both Rizki and Erwin often fought in the same class.In 2024 they will appear in the 73kg class, then this year in the 79kg class.
However, for the 2028 Olympics, Okto said, Rizki will focus on the 75kg number while Rahmat will be on 85kg.It is estimated that these two classes will be contested at the 2028 Olympics. This is to increase Indonesia’s gold potential at world sporting events.

“So if we’ve been confused all this time, it’s because our champions, Rizki [Juniansyah] and Rahmat [Erwin Abdullah] were in the same two classes. At the 2028 LA Olympics the numbers could finally be split,” said Okto in Jakarta, Wednesday (24/12).
“So specifically in LA 2028 there will be 75kg and 85kg events. So our two best athletes can be split. So there are those who compete at 75kg, there are those who compete at 85kg. And it turns out that at yesterday’s SEA Games in Thailand, Rizki competed at 79kg and Rahmat competed at 88 kg, both of them won gold,” he added.
Rizki Juniansyah succeeded in winning gold at the 2025 SEA Games in the men’s 79kg class.The athlete from Serang, Banten with a total lift of 365kg.In detail, Rizki lifted 164kg in snatch and 201kg in clean and jerk.
Meanwhile, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah won gold after lifting a total of 362kg.He has a snatch record of 160kg and clean and jerk of 202kg.
“And this is extraordinary, I’m really excited, I even broke the world record. Not the Southeast Asian record, not the Asian record, but the world record. So this is our enthusiasm to look at the 2028 LA Olympics,” he said.
According to Okto, the 75kg and 85kg competitions were thanks to the diplomacy of the Indonesian NOC.With this situation, it is hoped that the Red and White team can increase their highest medal potential.
“This is the result of diplomacy for Los Angeles 2028 so that Rizki and Rahmat are no longer in the same class,” said Okto.
