“If next year there is a plan to bring in 200 thousand pregnant heifers, this year we have just succeeded in bringing in 10 thousand pregnant heifers for dairy cattle. And next we want to convey to the Minister of Agriculture (Andi Amran Sulaiman) that East Java is preparing to get this program,” said East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa in a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture, South Jakarta, Friday (28/11).

“If this year the Minister of Agriculture delivers rice self-sufficiency, then next year it will be possible for us to be self-sufficient in sugar and East Java will be ready to be at the forefront,” said Khofifah.
On the same occasion, Minister of Agriculture Amran said that East Java was one of the keys to the success of PSN for dairy cattle because of its strong production track record in various food commodities.
“This is our proud governor, extraordinary. Rice production is number one in Indonesia. Corn, meat, 50 percent sugar, eggs, all number one at the forefront,” said Amran.
He explained that the PSN for dairy cattle would be built in two districts, namely Blitar and Banyuwangi.The two locations will become national dairy cattle development centers to increase milk production and support the implementation of MBG.
“Later, Mrs. Kadis will accompany it together with the director general of animal husbandry. We will build it in two districts, Blitar and Banyuwangi. Later, God willing, we will visit there,” he said.
Amran revealed that this project prepared a budget of around IDR 2.4 trillion with a target population of 67 thousand dairy cows.The land prepared reaches around 13 thousand hectares.

In developing the animal protein production chain, the government is also preparing large-scale chicken breeding facilities in Malang, East Java.This facility covers the stages of breeding parent hens to produce poultry seeds ready for breeding, and will later become a center for providing day-old chicks (DOC) for national needs.
This plan covers 12 regions, but Amran said that the DOC center would be centralized in Malang as a link for chick supplies for all of Indonesia.
