Indonesia emphasizes the importance of maintaining the continuity of G20 EMPOWER so that women’s progress does not go backwards. He said that after being stopped in 2024, Indonesia was pushing for a mechanism that would ensure there would be no more breaks in global commitments.
“The pause in 2024 reminds us that momentum is an asset. Indonesia appreciates South Africa for re-igniting this collective energy,” said Rina.
Apart from that, Rina also conveyed a message from the South African Presidency which emphasized a positive masculinity approach, involving men as strategic partners in gender equality, in line with the Indonesian value of mutual cooperation.
“When women and men move together, change happens faster and more sustainably,” said the Deputy Chairperson of IWAPI .
On that occasion, RI also encouraged the public-private partnership in the G20 EMPOWER to become a permanent mechanism until 2030 and beyond.
On the sidelines of the agenda, Indonesia held bilateral meetings with Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Norway and France to strengthen commitment to the SDGs and empower women across countries.
“When women advance, the nation also advances. Indonesia is present not only as a participant, but as a global partner,” said Rina.
In the forum, the Indonesian delegation was led by the Deputy for Gender Equality at the Ministry of PPPA, Amurwani Dwi Lestariningsih, accompanied by the Assistant Deputy PUG for Economy, Infrastructure and Region I, Eni Widiyanti, and First Secretary of the Indonesian Embassy in Pretoria Anistasari Gustini.
Amurwani called for efforts to increase women’s participation in the workforce to 25 percent and optimize women’s financial management abilities to reduce the gender gap.
“For more than the last decade, the Brisbane Goal has been set as a reference target for countries in the G20 to reduce the gender gap through increasing labor force participation. Thanks to the joint efforts that have been implemented, the gap has decreased from 22.2 percent in 2012 to 18 percent in 2024,” Amurwani quoted as saying.

However, this progress has not been evenly distributed across all countries. In several countries, including Indonesia, the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) for women is still around 50 percent, while the TPAK for men has exceeded 80 percent.
