Rendy is the first Indonesian athlete to win a medal at the 2025 SEA Games. The athlete from Kediri won silver in the men’s MTB downhill event on Wednesday (10/12).A day later, Rendy successfully won gold in the MTB Cross Country Eliminator number.
After the news of success in winning silver and gold medals, then viral news emerged.Rendy is said to have had to sell his car to buy a bicycle to be used at the 2025 SEA Games, but this news was denied by the athlete who has been familiar with downhill cycling since 2010 when he was still an elementary school student.

“I sold the car before joining the national team. It was my own initiative and the aim was so that I could have a bicycle to fight for the national team. Because competition was also tight,” said Rendy, quoted by Antara.
The athlete, who entered national training in 2011, emphasized that this step was not related to support from the federation or the government.After officially becoming part of the national team, Rendy said the support he received actually went very well.
Rendy also revealed the unexpected experience he experienced when appearing at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand because members of the Management Committee of the Indonesian Cycling Sports Association PB ISSI or ICFÂ Brigjen.Pol.Adex Yudiswan and Secretary General Jadi Rajagukguk met him and asked about the sale of the car.
“At the Thailand SEA Games, the ICF leader found out that I had sold a car. He then replaced the money so that I could take back the car I sold, even adding it to the previous price,” said Rendy.
The athlete who won a medal at the Asian Championships also expressed his appreciation for the attention and support given by the federation leadership while he was joining the national team.
“I would like to thank the ICF leadership for the help and support I have received so far. I feel the federation’s support is very good, as are the government and my coach,” he said.
After successfully winning gold and silver at the SEA Games, Rendy is aiming for classy events.
“I will try to be even better. I hope I get the opportunity to appear for Indonesia. I also hope that my number will be in the 2026 Asian Games. Of course, as an athlete, my dream is to also appear in the Olympics,” said Rendy.
