revealed by Main Director Glenny H Kairupan. This state-owned company has postponed orders for three new aircraft to increase its fleet.
According to Glenny, Garuda has postponed some aircraft orders because the company is prioritizing repairs to its existing fleet, before expanding again.
He explained that one plane was still being processed because the down payment had already been paid, while the other three were postponed so that the focus on maintenance was not disturbed.

“So it is true that the last MoU (memorandum of understanding) order was for four aircraft. But the only one that has just received a DP (down payment) is one aircraft. We will postpone the three, we will postpone them first. Because we are prioritizing repairs first,” said Glenny at a press conference at the Garuda Indonesia Management Building, Tangerang, Thursday (13/11).
Glenny said this postponement was in line with the recovery direction given by the government and the Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara Indonesia as investors. It is said that efforts to save Garuda must start from resolving various operational problems that have accumulated.
He hopes that in the next two years Garuda can return to health and operate according to the initial vision of the company’s founding.
From the management side, Deputy Main Director of Garuda Indonesia Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro explained that a comprehensive evaluation was being carried out to determine fleet needs more realistically.
“Because with someone who is our transformation director, we are recalculating our fleet needs and also reorganizing our network and route planning,” he explained on the same occasion.
“So we are not canceling, but some of us will postpone it. Until the analysis has been finalized,” added Thomas.
It was recently reported that Garuda had canceled most of its plans to add around 20 aircraft, with initial information stating that only one or two units would still arrive because the down payment had already been paid.
The remainder is still in the LOI stage so it can be postponed without financial penalty.
This issue arose in the midst of a revision of the value of Danantara’s capital investment which fell to IDR 23.67 trillion. This adjustment changes the use of funds and no longer includes fleet expansion as a priority.
Most of the funds are now allocated to liquidity, operations and aircraft maintenance, including to support Citilink’s financial condition which is still under pressure.
