Putin also accused US President Joe Biden’s administration of seeking to destroy Russia, and claimed European politicians were also pursuing the same goal.
Putin even called European politicians “shoats” or “pigs” for allegedly stoking hysteria about the possibility of war with Russia.Putin even gave an ultimatum that Moscow could one day attack member countries of the NATO military alliance.
“I have repeatedly stated: this is a lie, nonsense, complete nonsense about an imaginary Russian threat to European countries. But this was done deliberately,” Putin said.
Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said one of the targets for 2026 is to increase the tempo of Russia’s offensive. In a slide shown during his speech, it was stated that Russia was allocating 5.1 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP) for war in 2025.
The US has indeed held talks with Moscow and Kyiv as well as Europe on proposals to end the war in Ukraine. However, until now no agreement has been reached.
Kyiv and European countries expressed concern over Ukraine’s demands for territorial concessions and demanded stronger security guarantees from the US-proposed peace proposal.
Meanwhile, Russia says it now controls around 19 percent of Ukraine’s territory, including the Crimea Peninsula which it annexed in 2014, most of the Donbas region in the east, most of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as small parts of four other regions.
Moscow claims Crimea, Donbas, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia are now part of Russia. However, Ukraine insists it will never accept such claims, and almost all countries in the world consider these territories to be part of Ukraine.
European leaders say they stand with Kyiv and insist Russia should not be “rewarded” for the war in Ukraine.
A number of European leaders have accused Russia of not seriously intending to engage in peace talks.Leveling similar criticism of Europe, Belousov said European countries were trying to thwart efforts to end the war and continued to talk about the possibility of war between Russia and NATO in the next few years.
“Such a policy creates real preconditions for the continuation of military operations next year, 2026,” he said.
