Yudhi Sadewa confirmed that the plan to simplify the nominal value of the rupiah (redenomination), for example from IDR 1,000 to IDR 1, will not be implemented in the near future.
Purbaya emphasized that this policy is the authority of Bank Indonesia (BI) and will be implemented according to needs at the right time.
“Denomination (redenomination) is the Central Bank’s policy and it will be implemented according to needs in due course, but not now, not next year,” said Purbaya at Airlanga University (Unair) Surabaya, Monday (10/11).

Purbaya dismissed suggestions that the government would immediately implement redenomination next year.He emphasized that the Ministry of Finance is not in a decision-making position regarding this policy.
“No, no, next year. I don’t know. It’s not (the authority of) the Minister of Finance but a matter for the Central Bank. The Central Bank has already given a statement, right,” he said.
Purbaya also asked that his statement not be misinterpreted as a signal for the government to implement redenomination.
“So don’t beat me up. I keep getting beat up,” he said jokingly.
Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa plans to redenominate the rupiah or better known as the policy of changing IDR 1,000 to IDR 1.
Purbaya outlined this plan in Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 70 of 2025 concerning the Ministry of Finance’s Strategic Plan for 2025-2029.
“The Bill on Rupiah Price Changes (Redenomination) is a draft bill which is planned to be completed in 2027,” quoted from PMK 70/2025 which was signed by Purbaya.
Purbaya’s reason for redenominating the rupiah is economic efficiency.He also made the redenomination of the rupiah a strategy to maintain the continuity of national economic development, a stable value of the rupiah as a form of maintaining people’s purchasing power, and increasing the credibility of the rupiah.
