said that the Criminal Procedure Code (
Criminal Procedure Code
) which was recently passed will take effect on January 2, 2026.
The Criminal Procedure Code was ratified in the eighth plenary session for the 2025-2026 second session, chaired by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani accompanied by four other DPR leaders.The meeting was attended by 342 of the total 579 council members.

“This law will come into effect on January 2 2026,” said Puan in a press conference after the plenary session at the parliament complex, Tuesday (18/11).
The PDIP politician said that the KUHAP had gone through a long process of almost two years and had involved a lot of public participation.According to him, there were more than 130 inputs from people in all regions in Indonesia regarding this law.
“And there are lots of things that have been updated, which have involved many parties who then in the renewal sided with the laws that follow the times or the laws that apply now,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Commission III DPR Habiburokhman said that law enforcement officials would be able to use the RKUHAP starting January 2 2026. Habib admitted that his party had worked around it from the start so that this target could be realized.
Until that time limit, he continued, the old KUHAP was still in effect as long as it did not conflict with the new KUHAP.
“Ongoing criminal proceedings are still valid as long as they do not conflict with the Criminal Procedure Code,” he said.
