This Portuguese coach was born on May 2 1980 and has a Pro-UEFA license.Previously, Tavares coached PSM Makassar for three seasons, namely from 2022 to 2025.

Before becoming a coach, he was a former soccer player.His career in the world of soccer began when he joined the ADC Proença-a-Nova junior team.Tavares’ name did not fly when he was a player.
Meanwhile, his managerial career began when he coached the Proença-a-Nova U-18 team in 1997.
The 45 year old figure then managed junior clubs such as Pastelaria Rosa and Escola Superior de Desporto de Rio Maior.
Tavares has a track record at three elite Portuguese clubs from 2001 to 2009. He was assistant coach for the Benfica youth team, FC Porto talent scout and assistant coach for the Sporting youth team.
Tavares is not just a coach.Apart from being a scout at Porto, Tavares also worked as Youth Football coordinator of GC Alcobaça (2002-2004), Futsal coordinator of ADC Proença-a-Nova (2006-2009), goalkeeper training coordinator at AD Carregado (2009-2010), and as coordinator of the Professional Football Talent Search Department at CF Belenenses (2010-2012).
After 2012 Tavares then ventured outside Portugal.Having been an assistant coach at the Bahrain club, Hidd, Tavares returned home.After that, Tavares continued to travel to Oman, Maldives, Macau, India and Finland.
Tavares has titles with Benfica Macau and New Radiant in the Maldives.
In 2002 Tavares headed to Makassar and managed the Juku Eja team.While he was the head coach of the PSM Makassar club, Tavares achieved the title of champion in League 1 for the 2022/2023 season.Tavares also won the title of best coach in Liga 1 2022/2023.
Tavares’ long career at the legendary Indonesian club ended in October 2025. He decided to resign due to his salary being in arrears for several months.
Now Tavares is Persebaya’s new coach.Tavares will face a new challenge because the Bajul Ijo Team has not won a national competition for a long time.
