Prices of Shallots and Chilies are Rising towards the End of the Year

) noted that the prices of a number of food commodities experienced a spike in more and more regions in the first week of December 2025, especially

and
chili

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Pudji Ismartini, said that the price spike did not only occur for chilies and onions, but also spread to purebred chicken meat, purebred chicken eggs, cooking oil and rice in a number of areas.
“Shallots, the number of regencies and cities experiencing an increase in the price of shallots in the first week of December 2025 has increased quite a lot, namely from 216 regencies and cities last week, currently there are 276 regencies and cities experiencing an increase in the price of shallots,” said Pudji at the 2025 Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, Monday (8/12).

Nationally, the average price of shallots reached IDR 45,163 per kilogram (kg), an increase compared to November and above the Reference Sales Price (HAP).Price increases occurred in 76.67 percent of Indonesia.
In the regions, the price of shallots was recorded at IDR 40 thousand per kg in Tanah Datar Regency, IDR 59 thousand per kg in Nias Regency, IDR 50 thousand per kg in Serdang Bedagai Regency, IDR 49,600 per kg in Pesisir Selatan Regency, and IDR 51 thousand per kg in Sabang City.
The spike also occurred in the chili group.
“Last week the number of regencies and cities that experienced an increase in the price of cayenne pepper was 98 and in the first week of December 2025 it will be 261 regencies and cities,” said Pudji.
Nationally, the average price of cayenne pepper has now reached IDR 60,861 per kg and is above the HAP.The price increase for cayenne pepper occurred in 72.50 percent of Indonesia.
Regionally, the highest price for cayenne pepper reaches IDR 200 thousand per kg in Nduga Regency, while the lowest price is around IDR 23,750 per kg.
For red chilies, the average national price reached IDR 59,898 per kg, also above the HAP.Price increases occurred in 71.39 percent of Indonesia, with a total of 257 districts/cities affected.
Regionally, Nduga Regency recorded the highest price of up to IDR 200 thousand per kg, followed by Nias Regency IDR 176,800 per kg and Mappi Regency IDR 158,500 per kg.
Price increases also spread to animal protein commodities.
“The number of regencies and cities that experienced an increase in the price of purebred chicken meat increased to 211 regencies and cities compared to last week, there were 113 regencies and cities that experienced an increase in purebred chicken meat,” said Pudji.
Nationally, the average price of purebred chicken meat has now reached IDR 39,788 per kg, almost reaching the HAP of IDR 40 thousand per kg.Regionally, the highest price was recorded at IDR 100 thousand per kg in Intan Jaya Regency, followed by IDR 80 thousand per kg in Yahukimo Regency and IDR 80 thousand per kg in Arfak Mountains Regency.
Meanwhile, the price of national breed chicken eggs is now an average of IDR 32,097 per kg, with increases occurring in 35.56 percent of Indonesia’s territory or 128 districts/cities.
Regionally, the highest price for purebred chicken eggs reached IDR 100 thousand per kg in Central Mamberamo Regency and Intan Jaya Regency, while the lowest price was around IDR 24,333 per kg.
In contrast to other commodities, national rice prices tend to fall slightly in the first week of December 2025.
“Medium rice in the first week of December experienced a decrease of 0.06 percent compared to November 2025,” said Pudji.
Nationally, the average price of medium rice is around IDR 14,235 per kg, while premium rice is around IDR 16,005 per kg and is also down 0.15 percent compared to the previous month.
Even though the national average is weakening, increases in rice prices are still recorded in seven provinces, namely West Papua, West Sumatra, Aceh, North Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara, Central Papua and Southwest Papua.
In these areas, the price of rice was recorded at IDR 17,836 per kg in West Papua, IDR 16,397 per kg in West Sumatra, IDR 14,492 per kg in Aceh, IDR 15,090 per kg in North Sumatra, IDR 13,964 per kg in West Nusa Tenggara, IDR 28,115 per kg in Central Papua, and IDR 17,322 per kg in Southwest Papua.
Meanwhile, the highest national rice price was recorded in Papua Mountains at IDR 29,308 per kg, and DKI Jakarta was around IDR 15,077 per kg with relatively stable conditions.
For cooking oil, the average national price is recorded at around IDR 19,529 per liter.Specifically for Minyakita, the average national price reached IDR 17,343 per liter, still above the HET of IDR 15,700 per liter.
Nationally, there are 401 districts/cities with Oilita prices above the HET, consisting of 91 regions on the island of Java and 310 regions outside Java.
On the island of Java, the price of Minyakita was recorded at IDR 18,500 per liter in Kediri City, IDR 18 thousand in Kuningan Regency, and IDR 18 thousand in Wonogiri Regency.Outside Java, the Bintang Mountains Regency recorded prices of up to IDR 50 thousand per liter.
