Meanwhile, a number of other regions are still continuing their emergency response status to ensure that the needs of affected residents are handled optimally.
Pratikno said that the status transition covered 12 regions out of a total of 52 districts/cities in the three affected provinces, namely North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Aceh.

“Thank God, thanks to the mutual cooperation of all of us, from 12 regencies/cities in 52 regencies/cities in three provinces, the status has entered the transition to the recovery phase. We apologize, however, in Aceh Province there are still 11 regencies that will extend the emergency response status,” said Pratikno in a press conference, Thursday (25/12).
He explained that the extension of the emergency response status was carried out so that emergency management efforts could run optimally and the region was truly ready to enter the recovery phase.
“All of this is done to ensure that the emergency response efforts required by residents can be carried out optimally. And so that the region is truly ready to enter the recovery phase,” he said.
Regarding post-disaster recovery, the government has begun to accelerate the construction of temporary shelters (huntara) and permanent shelters (huntap) in affected areas.In West Sumatra, shelter construction has been underway in six districts/cities, while in North Sumatra it is underway in three districts/cities and continues to grow.
As for Aceh, one district has started development, while other districts are still in the preparation and acceleration stages, with land preparation being the main challenge.
Based on the handling explanation, in Aceh Province a number of regions have prepared shelter locations and cleared the land, while others are still in the identification process.
In North Sumatra, the construction of shelters and temporary shelters has been underway in several areas, including those that have begun construction of sample units and advanced planning stages.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the number of fatalities due to flooding in Sumatra has increased again.As of Thursday (25/12), the total death toll in the three affected provinces reached 1,135 people, while 173 people were still declared missing and the search process was continuing.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that the increase in fatalities was the result of ongoing search and rescue operations in the field.
“As of today, there has been an increase in the number of fatalities by six people, bringing the total from yesterday to 1,129 to 1,135. There has been a reduction in missing victims on the search list which is still being carried out,” said Abdul Muhari on the same occasion.
