Governor of DKI Jakarta
Pramono Anung
ensuring celebration
New Year 2026
in Jakarta it is still being held, but with a simple concept.
This policy was taken as a form of empathy for the grief of the floods and landslides that hit three provinces in Sumatra, namely Aceh, West Sumatra and North Sumatra.
Even though it is held simply, Pramono believes that New Year celebrations still need to be held. This is because Jakarta not only acts as the National Capital, but also as a global city that is of international concern.

“So, even though it will be in simplicity, definitely in simplicity, I want Jakarta to remain in the eyes of the world, even though we are all in a state of mourning, it will still be a portrait of optimism in welcoming the New Year 2026. Because that is important,” said Pramono at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday (18/12).
He emphasized that it is hoped that the celebration will still convey a message of optimism towards 2026, even though it is held in an atmosphere of sadness.According to him, Jakarta needs to show a spirit of togetherness and hope without displaying luxury.
Pramono also opened up the possibility of holding joint prayers in the series of New Year celebrations later. He ensured that there would be no excessive excitement, but that the New Year’s welcome would still take place as a symbol of hope and collective reflection.
“What is clear is that Jakarta is not full of festivities or luxury. Maybe I will even do things related to emphasizing prayer and so on. But there must still be a welcome to the New Year,” said Pram.
Pramono said that the DKI Provincial Government is taking a serious look at the conditions in the areas affected by the disaster.According to him, the atmosphere of national concern is the main consideration in determining the concept of New Year celebrations in the capital city.
Apart from that, he emphasized that Jakarta is still continuing to distribute aid to areas affected by the disaster. This assistance is carried out on an ongoing basis, including direct delivery to a number of cities and districts that have experienced quite severe impacts, although it is not always published in the public domain.
“But we continue to do that continuously. Specifically including several cities or regencies that are quite badly affected, we treat them separately, we send them directly to the cities/regencies concerned,” he said.
