“After all technical processes have been completed, it is hoped that before the end of January (2026) a document will be prepared so that it can be officially signed by Mr. President Prabowo and the President of the United States, Mr. Donald Trump,” said Airlangga at the Press Conference on the Development of Indonesia-US Trade Negotiations via Zoom, Tuesday (23/12).
“Currently, the Americans are setting the right time for the planned meeting between the two leaders (Prabowo and Trump),” he stressed.
The trade negotiation process between Indonesia and the US takes quite a long time.In fact, Airlangga is currently still in Uncle Sam’s country to finalize it
framework
and the substance of the agreement between the two countries.
In the US, Airlangga met with United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamieson Greer.According to him, the meeting which discussed the main issues and technical problems went well.
Later, there will still be a technical team meeting which will be held from January 12 2026 to January 19 2026.
Airlangga said this process was necessary for
legal drafting
document
Agreement on Reciprocal Trade
(ART).
According to Airlangga, Indonesia received special tariff exemptions for superior export products, such as palm oil, coffee, cocoa and others.
“Of course this is good news, especially for Indonesian industry which is directly affected by the tariff policy, where the sectors affected by the tariff are mainly labor intensive, employing 5 million workers and of course this is very strategic for Indonesia,” he explained.
Furthermore, he hopes that the technical process will run on time so that by the end of 2026 an agreement can be signed by the two state leaders.
“Thus, the benefits of this agreement opening market access between the two countries can immediately boost the economy in Indonesia,” concluded Airlangga.
