) Red and White.The reason is, currently the number of members is still very minimal.
Based on data from the Ministry of Cooperatives as of Friday 11/921), currently the number of registered KopDes Merah Putih members is only 1.29 million people out of around 82 thousand cooperatives that are legal entities.
“If the average is 82,790, that means there are 14 people per Kopdes. So, this is homework for us, why? Because it is the President’s wish that all people in the village and sub-district must become members of the cooperative,” said Deputy for Institutional and Digitalization of Cooperatives at the Ministry of Cooperatives, Henra Saragih, in a Media Talk at his office, Friday (21/11).

According to him, if a village or sub-district can encourage at least 500 of its residents to become members, then the number of memberships can increase sharply.
“Well, this is actually really extraordinary when all the 82,000 KopDes fill the total number of community members in their villages, put 500 per village, that’s actually almost a 40 million increase in the number of members,” he explained.
The target is that by 2026 the number of members registered with KopDes Merah Putih can reach 70 million people.In this way, he believes the village can be more advanced and independent.
“Because the truth is that cooperatives actually empower people to become members of cooperatives. How can we encourage them to become members of cooperatives in the communities in these villages. The strength is in the members,” he stressed.
One of the policies that will be implemented to encourage increased membership is to make it a condition for receiving social assistance (bansos) for Family Hope Recipients (PKH).
“Yes, the PKH recipients at the Ministry of Social Affairs will be distributed through cooperatives. So, we are currently discussing the method so that we can be sure that the recipients are genuine recipients,” he concluded.
