Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (
BGN
) Nanik S Deyang delivered the President
Prabowo Subianto
request menu adjustments in the Free Nutritious Meals program (
MBG
) so as not to disrupt national food stability, especially ahead of Christmas and New Year (Nataru).
One of the Head of State’s requests was to temporarily replace some of the side dishes that use eggs.
“Earlier, the President said, ‘Wow, if for example this is going to be Christmas, maybe we will reduce the eggs for the children, but replace them with beef, replace them with quail eggs,'” said Nanik at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (20/11).

Nanik explained Prabowo’s direction so that people’s need for eggs for cakes and household consumption would not be disturbed.
He said the main discussion with the relevant ministries was the preparation of raw materials for the MBG program which requires large supplies.
According to him, the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), Andi Amran Sulaiman, was carried out to ensure that land availability and food production could meet program needs without creating inflation.
He said that production of milk, soybeans, vegetables and other foods must be immediately increased so that Indonesia can achieve food independence in line with the implementation of the MBG.
“Right, this MBG program requires a lot of raw materials. The President has given instructions. For example, for this milk, we are starting to have difficulty finding milk, we will create a cattle farm which will be able to meet the needs of MBG and also for the people in Indonesia, approximately 3 million liters will be produced per day,” he said.
He added that the need for tofu and tempeh is very large, so domestic soybean production must be boosted to reduce dependence on imports.
Nanik explained that Prabowo’s direction was not merely anticipatory, but was implemented immediately on the same day.Cattle farming and soybean land development will be carried out through integration between the government and food state-owned enterprises such as PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara (Persero).
According to him, 200 thousand hectares of land in Java will be prepared for livestock, while another 300 thousand hectares will be outside Java.
“This is straight away, it’s done straight away. For livestock, Pak Prabowo has directly instructed it to be carried out straight away,” he said.
Signs of an increase in food prices, especially chicken, eggs and fruit, are starting to appear in several areas, although the scale is still small.
Nanik revealed that a number of districts/cities reported that the capacity of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), aka MBG public kitchens, was starting to fill up, which is usually an indicator of increasing demand and price pressure. He also highlighted the scarcity of fruit in the main market, which previously was always abundant.
Facing this situation, BGN is working with the Indonesian Army to mobilize military district commands (kodim) to plant vegetables and raise chickens, as well as collaborating with the Ministry of Cooperatives to fund agricultural cooperatives with an initial allocation of around IDR 300 billion.
BGN also coordinates with the Ministry of Home Affairs so that regents optimize empty land at the RT-RW level for food production.
Nanik said one of the obstacles was the mechanism for entering the MBG kitchen which was difficult if farmers moved individually. For this reason, BGN encourages the formation of cooperatives or at least trading business units so that farmer groups can be accommodated and enter the system officially.
“For example, 10 farmers are combined into one, so they can enter SPPG,” he said.
According to him, all these efforts were made so that the large demand for MBG does not trigger price fluctuations and so that the program runs in harmony with national food stability.
