This sampling was carried out to investigate the origin of the logs that were carried away during the flash flood at the end of last November.
“27 wood samples have been taken, a police line has been installed, and two bridges have been inspected. Irhamni explained that the majority of the types of wood found at this location were rubber, ketapang, durian and so on.
Irhamni also revealed that from the preliminary identification results, one of the pieces of wood found came from a saw.
“Identification of wood shows several categories, sawn wood, wood removed with roots (heavy equipment), wood resulting from landslides and wood transported by loaders,” he said.
As a follow-up, said Irhamni, his party will immediately investigate the company suspected of carrying out land clearing activities in the Garoga River area.
“The team’s investigative activities will continue with an inspection of one of the companies located upstream of the Garoga River which indicates land clearing activities by the PT TBS company,” he said.
On the other hand, regarding the origin of logs in the West Sumatra region, Irhamni said that the inventory process was still being carried out.
“The West Sumatra investigation team will carry out an inventory of the wood on the sea coast whether it was the result of a disaster or human intervention related to the logs,” he said.
The origin of piles of logs carried away by flash floods in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra is still a mystery.A number of parties also stepped in to carry out investigations.
Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo had mentioned that there were a number of saw marks on logs that had been swept away by the flood.
Sigit said that the discovery of saw marks would later become the focus of the team’s investigation. He said that currently officers had been deployed to follow the river flow from upstream to downstream to see the location where the wood came from.
“From the team’s findings in the field, there were various types of wood, but we found that some had traces of chainsaw cuts. That’s what we will investigate,” he said at a press conference, Thursday (4/12).
