Lampung Regional Police
stated that the owner of the wood stranded on Tanjung Setia Beach, Pesisir Barat Regency, PT Minas Pagai Lumber, has a forest utilization permit or PBPH for up to 45 years in
Mentawai Islands
, West Sumatra.
“The forest utilization permit is contained in Decree Number 550/1995 dated 11 October 1995, and was extended in 2013 in accordance with SK 502 Menhut/II 2013 dated 14 July 2013, which applies retroactively from 13 April 2011 for a period of 45 years,” said Lampung Police Chief Inspector General Helfi Assegaf, at the Lampung Regional Police Headquarters, Wednesday.(10/12), quoted

Helfi said that the permit was in accordance with Ministry of Environment and Forestry regulations Number 8 of 2001 concerning forest governance and forest management and forest utilization in protected forests and production forests.
“The result of coordination with the Ministry of Forestry is that PT Minas was given the business of utilizing wood forest products in natural forests, with a HHKHH IUP covering an area of approximately 78 thousand hectares,” he said.
Helfi explained that the logistics wood found at Tanjung Setia Beach was discovered on Saturday (6/12) based on information from the public.
“Then after checking the crime scene, we received information that the wood was transported using a ship carrying 986 logs or around 4,800 cubic meters belonging to PT Minas Pagai Lumber,” he said.
He said the ship departed from Mentawai, West Sumatra, heading to PT Makmur Cemerlang via the port of Tanjung Mas, Semarang, Central Java.
“However, on Wednesday (5/11), precisely in the waters of Tanjung Faithful, the ship carrying wood stopped working. Because the propeller was entangled in rubbish, the ship’s engine was unable to pull the barge,” he said.
Then, said Helfi, because the waves were quite high, the ship swayed, and on November 7, the anchor rope broke, causing the barge to tilt and some of the wood fell into the sea at Tanjung Setia Beach.
“Then the police came to the scene to carry out rescue evacuation of the ship’s crew. There were 14 crew members there,” he said.
“We also carried out inspections of ship transportation containing logs. Namely transport documents originating from permits for forest utilization or PBPH, as well as searching for barcode labels on several logs identified in the forest product administration system (SIPUH),” he added.
