North Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Whisnu Hermawan said a joint team would be formed to trace the origin of the logs that were carried away by the flood currents in a number of affected areas.
This team involves elements of the police, Ministry of Environment and local government.

“Because a team will be formed from the Police, the Ministry of Environment and from the Regional Government. Because the team will continue to work day and night to ensure it is related to this natural disaster,” said Inspector General of Police Whisnu Hermawan, Saturday (6/12).
Whisnu said that the joint team would later carry out a thorough investigation to find out the cause of the emergence of the logs, including suspected illegal logging activities.
“Regarding the investigation, we still need time to carry out an investigation. So this is the team that will carry out an investigation regarding the causes of this natural disaster. So wait for the time,” he said.
Based on data obtained from the North Sumatra National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of Saturday (6/12) at 17.00 WIB,
A total of 420,628 families or 1,578,006 people were affected by floods and landslides that hit a number of districts/cities in North Sumatra.
Then it was recorded that 318 people had died and 123 others were still declared missing.
Apart from that, 647 residents were injured due to flash floods and landslides.The number of residents who were displaced reached 9,173 heads of families or 36,606 people.
