On Tuesday (18/11), he said the two Ukrainians were accused of acting on instructions from Russian intelligence to damage the train line to the border of Ukraine, Poland’s close partner.
He also said the Polish government would not reveal the identities of the perpetrators until the investigation continued.
According to information from prosecutors and investigators, the two men had long been operating and working together for Russian services.
In a different case, power lines were destroyed in the Pulawy region, about 50 kilometers from Lublin.
Prosecutors in Poland are investigating acts of terror sabotage against railway infrastructure for the benefit of foreign intelligence.
“This action creates the danger of land traffic accidents which endanger people’s lives, health and large property,” he said.
The damage at the two points has been repaired and no injuries were reported.
The two incidents follow an increase in fires, sabotage and attacks in Poland and other European countries since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
One of the perpetrators is suspected to be a Ukrainian citizen who was convicted last May of sabotage by a court in Lviv.Meanwhile, the other perpetrators came from Donbas, a region of Ukraine controlled by Russia.
He and the first suspect entered Poland from Belarus this fall.
After the incident occurred, the two suspects left Poland for Belarus.
In total, 55 people were arrested and 23 of them were detained for acts of sabotage in Poland.
Tusk’s remarks prompted Russian Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to accuse the Polish government of being “Russophobic”.
“Russia is accused of all forms of hybrid warfare and ongoing attacks,” the Kremlin told reporters on Russian state television.
“In Poland, everyone is trying to be quicker than some other European countries on this. And Russophobia, of course, is growing there.”
In recent years, Poland has restricted the activities of Russian diplomats on its territory and closed two Russian consulates.
