Thailand and Cambodia returned to war after a Bangkok soldier was killed and four soldiers were injured in a gunfight on the border at dawn Monday (8/12).
Thailand claims Cambodia opened fire first. However, Cambodia denied this and accused Thailand of carrying out the first attack.
The two parties themselves have been arguing for several days.
Following the soldier’s death, Thailand on Monday deployed F-16 fighter jets to attack Cambodian military infrastructure on the border.Cambodia meanwhile reportedly launched a rocket at a Thai residential area in Ban Sai Tho 10, Ban Kruat district, Buri Ram.
So far, Cambodia has reported three civilians seriously injured in attacks.
Thailand and Cambodia are currently in a ceasefire. However, both countries accused each other of violating an agreement brokered by United States President Donald Trump.
The first Thai-Cambodian war erupted last July for five days.Bangkok-Phnom Penh then signed a peace agreement in Kuala Lumpur in October after being urged by Trump and Anwar Ibrahim as chairman of ASEAN this year.
At least 48 people died and around 300,000 people were displaced as a result of the Thailand-Cambodia war in July.
