opens up opportunities to work on the Tuna Block in
North Natuna Sea
together with the original oil and gas company
Russia
, Zarubezhneft.
“If there is an opportunity for us to increase lifting, of course we will encourage it and we want to take part,” said Simon when met after the inauguration of the BPH Migas committee members at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Office, Jakarta, Monday (10/11), quoted from

Simon said this interest was in line with Pertamina’s duties to help increase national oil production and lifting.
According to Simon, if there is an opportunity for Pertamina to work on the Tuna Block, his party follows the procedures provided.
“We just have to follow the procedures, the rules,
compliance
, and so on,” he said.
The Tuna Block was initially operated by a British company, namely Harbor Energy Group through Premier Oil Tuna B.V.The production is in partnership with ZN Asia Ltd (ZAL), a subsidiary of Zarubezhneft.
Deputy for Exploration, Development and Management of SKK Migas Working Areas, Rikky Rahmat Firdaus, said that the cooperation failed after the United States (US) sanctioned Russia.
“Harbour’s KKKS (Cooperative Contract Contractor), the previous (operator), cannot continue if there are sanctions from the US on its neighboring partners. Harbor as the operator is willing to hand over its data to the next operator,” said Rikky some time ago.
SKK Migas and Zarubezhneft are looking for the right partner who can become the operator for managing the Tuna Block. The Tuna Block is targeted to be on stream around 2028-2029.
“In its current position, the divestment process will be completed this month. ZAL doesn’t have the experience that can be seen in carrying out operational activities in the field before,” he said.
Exploration activities in the Tuna Block, which have been ongoing for several years, have been protested by China.Chinese coastal surveillance vessels often sail near submersible oil platforms in the Tuna Block.
At that time, China urged Indonesia to stop drilling, saying the activity was taking place on its territory.
However, Indonesia declares that the southern tip of the South China Sea is its exclusive economic zone in accordance with UNCLOS.
The government then named the area the North Natuna Sea in 2017. China rejected this.
They said the area was part of a territorial claim in the South China Sea marked by a nine dash line.
