Chairman of Commission V DPR, Lasarus
reminded the government to immediately ask for assistance in handling it
flash flood and landslide disasters
in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
According to him, the government does not need to be embarrassed about asking for help if it feels unable to handle the impact of the disaster in Sumatra.
Lasarus assesses that people in disaster locations currently need the state’s immediate presence because they are no longer able to deal with the conditions that are occurring.

“Help these people quickly. If we can’t, there’s no need to be embarrassed about asking for help from any party,” said Lasarus in a flood management meeting with the Minister of Transportation and the Minister of Public Works at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (8/12).
Lasarus admitted that until now his party is still receiving reports in the field that many access points or points in the affected areas are still not reached to receive assistance. Therefore, he hopes that budget allocation will no longer be a problem.
“We are still receiving reports that there are still points that cannot be fully reached by the teams in the field,” he said.
On the other hand, his party also received reports that the regional government no longer had the APBD capacity to deal with the impact of disasters. This condition greatly influences treatment efforts.
According to Lasarus, there are special endowment funds (DHK) and general endowment funds (DHU).However, the number is currently decreasing due to central efficiency.
“Therefore, the limited fiscal capacity of this region inevitably requires an initiative from the central government, so that we can handle this disaster immediately,” he said.
Even so, Lasarus admitted that he submitted it completely to the government regarding the national disaster status of the Sumatra flood tragedy. The DPR, he said, only asked that the impact of the flood and victims be handled quickly.
“The DPR submits it completely because this is a subject for the government. Please let the government determine this status. What is important for us is to handle it quickly,” he said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the central government would continue to be present to ensure that all victims’ needs were met quickly and precisely.
In his direction, Prabowo expressed optimism that Indonesia has the experience and strength to face major trials.
“We have experienced great disasters, great trials. But with cooperation, with unity, we are able to face them,” said Prabowo, quoting from an official statement, Monday (8/12).
