IV PalmCo, Jatmiko K. Santosa, expressed the importance of the readiness of competent and adaptive human resources (HR) to face the national palm oil industry which is entering a transformation phase.
Jatmiko conveyed this message in commemoration of the 69th Anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra (USU) at the USU Auditorium, Medan, Tuesday (25/11).
In front of hundreds of students, academics and invited guests, Jatmiko emphasized that human resource development is the main foundation for the modernization of the palm oil industry, especially when companies enter the era of plantation mechanization and digitalization.

“Transformation is not just about technology, but a way of thinking. The palm oil industry needs a generation that is academically intelligent and ready to lead change,” said Jatmiko in an official statement.
PalmCo, which in recent years has encouraged the use of technology in plantation management, said Jatmiko needs young talents who not only master theory, but are able to work across disciplines.
Jatmiko said that collaborative space between industry and universities is the key to the birth of innovations that are relevant to the needs of the future palm oil sector.According to Jatmiko, the company continues to open up opportunities for collaboration for applicable research and competency development programs.
“The future of agriculture is digital agriculture. Human resources must be agile, creative and resilient. PalmCo is ready to work together with USU to prepare the best talent for the national plantation sector,” he said.
To students, Jatmiko also advised not only to rely on academic intelligence, but to build resilience in the process.
“The challenge is endurance. People who are consistent are the ones who ultimately lead,” said Jaktimo.
Jatmiko further touched on PalmCo’s position, which is now ranked second in the world for the sustainability rating of plantation companies.He emphasized that the crude palm oil (CPO) products produced by the company must meet global demands for sustainable business practices.
“The world needs CPO, including Europe. They want sustainable CPO. PalmCo is ready to provide premium and environmentally friendly products,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chair of the USU 69th FP Anniversary Committee, Sori P. Rintonga, welcomed the presence of PalmCo and a number of industry stakeholders at this year’s celebration.
“This year’s Anniversary is a momentum for the faculty to strengthen the curriculum and expand the network of industrial partners. Students can learn directly from practitioners who are leading change in the field,” said Sori.
The atmosphere of the event was warm with active student participation.Various discussion sessions provided space for the exchange of ideas between the campus, government and industry players regarding the future of Indonesian agriculture.
