“Pedestrians are a symbol of humanity on the road. Those who are the weakest must be protected, not pushed aside,” Agus told reporters, Saturday (15/11).
Agus said this policy was an implementation of the principle
VisionZero
, which confirms that no loss of life is acceptable on the road, as well as the concept
Hierarchy of Road Users
, which places pedestrians at the highest position in the order of road safety priorities.
The two-star police general said these two principles were the basis for Korlantas Polri in developing strategic steps based on a human safety system.
Agus emphasized that protecting pedestrians is not only part of law enforcement, but also a form of the state’s presence in protecting its citizens.
He asked all traffic levels at the Regional Police to Polres level to make pedestrian safety the main indicator of performance, by measuring success not by the number of ticket tickets, but by increasing public compliance and reducing the number of accidents.
“The National Police Traffic Corps is committed to providing safe, orderly and humane road space for all road users,” he said.
