The brilliant performance of the young Indonesian men’s doubles pair, Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin, has succeeded in stealing the attention of the badminton world.
Not only fans in Indonesia, well-known badminton commentator Gill Clark or who is familiarly called Oma Gill also expressed sky-high praise for the performance of the 21 and 20 year old couple who recently won the 2025 Australian Open.

“There are some young athletes who somehow have something different. Something that goes beyond the technical skills required,” said Oma Gill, quoted from her X account.

Oma Gill said that Raymond/Joaquin’s features reminded her of the Hendra Setiawan/Markis Kido pair.
“I felt it when I saw Hendra Setiawan and his partner, the late Markis Kido, beat former world champions Sigit Budiarto and Candra Wijaya in the 2005 Indonesia Open final. Likewise when I first saw Tai Tzu Ying and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo.Everyone has something extra,” said Oma Gill.
“Something I can’t explain or describe but I can really feel is special and different when compared to other talented young people.”I felt the same way when I watched Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin win the 2025 Australian Open recently,” added Oma Gill.

Oma Gill emphasized that Raymond/Joaquin are very talented badminton players and have an attraction in the world of badminton.
“They are clearly very talented individuals, good technical skills, dynamic, adventurous and aggressive, making them exciting to watch.And there’s absolutely no doubt they’ve had a great start to their partnership.”Six titles from 8 finals in their first 12 tournaments together, including a title in Sydney while playing in their first Super 500 event on the BWF World Tour,” said Oma Gill.
