Chairman of the National Team Agency (BTN) Sumardji said that PSSI would narrow down from five to two names of prospective coaches for the Indonesian National Team.
“We will select two coaches first to discuss in more detail. Yes, just wait [names of those interviewed] because we want to find the best,” explained Sumardji.

However, Sumardji was reluctant to mention who the two candidates were.What is certain is that three PSSI delegates, namely Technical Director Alexander Zwiers, then two members of the PSSI Exco, Endri Erawan and Muhammad, will report this to the entire Exco for later confirmation.
Regarding the plan to narrow down the names of two coaches, national football observer Ronny Pangemanan said that he predicts that the final two names as candidates for the Indonesian National Team coach will be Giovanni van Bronckhorst and John Herdman.
“I think the interviews have already taken place in Europe. Both with Giovanni, in my opinion, maybe two of them are Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, the other one is John Herdman. If I’m not mistaken. And there are already discussions in Europe. Director of Technology, Mr. Alexander Zwiers, has spoken with the two excos who were present there,” said Ronny Pangemanan.
However, according to Bung Ropan, – his nickname – what will be tough is the issue of contract value.
“So what might be a bit tough is of course about the contract, about how much salary they will be given. Because it is certain that their salary or their contract will be higher than STY [Shin Tae Yong] and also compared to PK [Patrick Kluivert],” said Bung Ropan.
“So, for example, if STY and Patrick Kluivert are between around Rp. 1.3-1.5 billion [billion], then they can definitely be above 2. Above or even above Rp. 3 billion. So, this will be a tough discussion to discuss at the Exco. Because to make a decision to appoint a coach, you have to go through the mechanism at the PSSI Exco,” added Bung Ropan.
So, Bung Ropan believes that apart from quality issues, the issue of a suitable contract value will also determine who will become coach of the Indonesian National Team.
“Later there will be things there that will be discussed and then there will be a conclusion as to who is the most suitable. Suitable for PSSI’s existing budget of course. So that’s what PSSI has to take to see, so there’s no rush,” said Bung Ropan.
Bung Ropan also predicts that the name of the new coach for the Indonesian National Team will be announced in December and the architect will start work in early January 2026.
“Because maybe it will be announced, but he will start working for a coach in January 2026. Because we are a national team, we will only play in March. On FIFA Match Day. So there, if the announcement is in December, it could be possible,” said Bung Ropan.
“That is who will be selected between the two names that are converging. However, we still have to see whose budget comes in. In accordance with what PSSI wants. If Giovanni is too high, for example, then it will probably be taken to John Herdman. Who might be lower than Giovanni,” added Bung Ropan.
