South Korean senior actor,
O Yeong-su
, won an appeal against a previous court verdict that found him guilty of a case of alleged sexual harassment, and was sentenced to eight months in prison.
The Squid Game series actor was originally accused of hugging and kissing a woman on the cheek during a regional theater tour in 2017. O Yeong-su also apologized for the accusation.

On Tuesday (11/11), South Korea’s Suwon District Court, which ruled in favor of O Yeong-su’s appeal and overturned the previous verdict, admitted that there were indeed suspicions that the alleged abuse had actually occurred.
They referred to the female complainant seeking counseling regarding sexual violence six months after the alleged incident occurred.O’s apology to the alleged victim was also a reference for the court.
But the panel of judges expressed concern about the possibility that the victim’s memory had become distorted over time and stressed the need to protect the defendant’s interests if there were still doubts.
This decision was clearly opposed by the alleged victim and the women’s watchdog organization, Womenlink.The alleged victim stated that he would continue to speak out about the alleged harassment.
“Despite today’s verdict, I will continue to speak the truth until the end,” said the alleged victim in a statement released by Womenlink.”The verdict will not undo the truth or erase the pain I have suffered.”

O Yeong-su has been under legal action for alleged sexual harassment since November 2022. It all started when a member of the theater troupe that also starred O Yeong-su claimed the actor harassed her in September 2017.
Based on the victim’s claim, O Yeong-su groped and kissed her without permission while the two were outside.Throughout the investigation and trial since February 2023, O Yeong-su completely denied the accusations.
O Yeong-su, whose real name is Oh Se-kang, graduated from the theater department at Dongguk University and made his debut as an actor in 1963.
The actor made his debut on the big screen in 1965 with The Seashore Village, directed by Kim Ki-duk, who co-directed Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring.
Throughout his career, O Yeong-su was better known as a theater star until he finally became known to the world thanks to his role as No. 1 player.1 in Squid Game.
