The decision to appoint Nova Arianto was taken by PSSI referring to recommendations from the PSSI Technical Director, Alexander Zweirs.
“Especially for the men’s national team, in accordance with recommendations, in accordance with suggestions from the Director of Technology, Alexander [Zwiers], Exco colleagues agreed that we will give the coach of the men’s U-20 national team full duties and responsibilities to Nova Arianto,” said Sumardji at GBK Arena, Jakarta, Thursday (20/11).

Sumardji also spoke about the framework of the U-20 Indonesian National Team which will be led by Nova Arianto.Sumardji emphasized that the foundation uses the Indonesian U-17 National Team players who will appear in the 2025 U-17 World Cup.
In this event, Nova Arianto’s squad managed to make history by achieving their first win when they beat Honduras 2-1 in the final match of the group phase.
“Regarding the Men’s U-20 national team, 85 percent of the players are U-17 national team players who have just carried out World Cup activities,” he said.
Previously, when the U-17 Indonesian National Team arrived in Indonesia after appearing at the 2025 U-17 World Cup, PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir said that Nova Arianto and the U-17 Indonesian National Team squad would move up to become the framework for the U-20 Indonesian National Team.
“Coach Nova and the U-17 National Team players will be the framework for the U-20 National Team. We will prepare the U-20 National Team to be able to penetrate the 2027 U-20 Asian Cup,” said Erick, quoted from his personal Instagram, November 13.
