General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the implementation of the Criminal Code and
Criminal Procedure Code
new in order to equalize perception.

“Today we are carrying out MoU activities followed by the signing of the PKS (Cooperation Agreement) regarding synergy and understanding in terms of implementing the new Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code,” he said at a press conference.
He explained that the new Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code regulate many things that the public has expected.Such as legal solutions according to local wisdom and existing situations and conditions.
“Nevertheless, we remain committed to strictly enforcing the law against violations committed by anyone,” he explained.
Sigit said the MoU also aims to ensure that the National Police and Prosecutor’s Office can implement the rules contained in the new Criminal Code as well as possible.
“Together, we as law enforcement officers work in harmony, on one frequency, with one thought, to truly fulfill society’s hopes and justice,” he said.
On the same occasion, Burhanuddin said that the birth of the Criminal Code and KUHAP was an important milestone in the development of law enforcement in Indonesia.
He said the spirit being promoted was a transition from the colonial legacy model to a paradigm that is more humane, just, respects human rights, and is responsive to technological developments.
“This is not just a matter of changing articles and editorials, but is a renewal of the spirit and paradigm of criminal law enforcement that is more modern,” he said.
Therefore, he believes that the main challenge going forward will be consistency in implementing these new norms.Without strong synergy, he said, differences in interpretation between institutions could trigger legal uncertainty for society.
“This collaboration includes harmonization of SOPs, quality standards for case files, exchange of data and information, security support, and increasing human resource capacity through integrated training across institutions,” he concluded.
