Coordinating Minister for Food

(Zulhas) said the government has targeted Indonesia to achieve protein self-sufficiency by 2026.
This was conveyed by Zulhas in commemoration of National Fish Day with the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Wahyu Sakti Trenggono in Sarinah, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (23/11).

Zulhas emphasized that the self-sufficiency target is needed because protein plays an important role in increasing the nation’s intelligence.Especially for the younger generation who are currently still pursuing education.
He said that the level of daily protein consumption has also been proven to influence a country’s average Intelligent Quotient (IQ).According to him, the high IQ in developed countries is because they already consume foods high in protein every day.
Therefore, he said, the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming government is committed to achieving food self-sufficiency, especially protein, by 2026.
“We have to be self-sufficient, then serve it to our children’s tables, train them to be intelligent, that way we change. Their nutrition, their IQ changes,” he said.
Furthermore, Zulhas admitted that he had also asked the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to increase fish production as a source of protein.
“Happy eating fish because protein is important, determining Indonesian civilization today and in the future,” he said.
Previously, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, through the Directorate General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products, prepared a series of activities with the theme “Fish Protein for the Golden Generation 2045”.
This theme is in line with President Prabowo’s vision in the 2025-2029 RPJMN and the second Astacita which emphasizes the importance of the national defense system and national independence through self-sufficiency in food, energy and water, as well as strengthening the creative economy, green economy and blue economy.
