This was conveyed by Nadiem’s lawyer, Dodi S. Abdulkadir, in response to the KPK’s statement which mentioned Nadiem’s legal status so that he would hand over the case files to the Attorney General’s Office which had already handled the alleged corruption case with the same suspect.
“Pak Nadiem has explained that the use of Google Cloud is within the realm of operational implementers in the ministry, in this case the Center for Data and Information Technology (Pusdatin), so there was no involvement of Mr Nadiem as Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology at that time,” said Dodi in a written statement quoted on Sunday (23/12).

Dodi hopes that law enforcement can provide fair treatment by not involving Nadiem in an act he did not commit.
Dodi said his client also hopes that equality and objectivity will be enforced by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to ensure that justice is served straight.
Until now, he explained, Nadiem had not received any further news regarding the follow-up to the investigation carried out by the KPK.
“Of course he can understand if the Corruption Eradication Commission does not continue with this Google Cloud matter, because there was no unlawful act committed by him, because the decision to use Google Cloud was made at the operational level, not at the ministerial level,” he said.
“It should be noted that Mr. Nadiem has implemented government work programs in the education sector, especially the education transformation process which includes, among other things, replacing the National Examination with a National Assessment, as well as implementing Distance Learning (PJJ) to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” added Dodi.
Previously, the Corruption Eradication Commission stated that Nadiem was a potential suspect in an alleged corruption case related to the use of Google Cloud in the ministry he once led.
Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the Corruption Eradication Committee, Asep Guntur Rahayu, said that Nadiem’s status would be the same as the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebook laptops which was handled by the Attorney General’s Office.
“The same one is NM (Nadiem Makarim), then his special staff–what’s his name–JT (Jurist Tan). And these are different, but overall they are the same,” said Asep at the KPK’s Red and White Building, Jakarta, Thursday (20/11) evening.
