In a report published in
The Global New Light of Myanmar
, the military said that the buildings demolished included workers’ dormitories, a four-story hospital and a two-story karaoke complex.
“A total of 101 buildings have been demolished, and 47 others are still in progress,” the junta said in a statement, citing

.
The complex, known as KK Park, was previously in the spotlight after authorities discovered more than 2,000 online fraudsters in raids last month.Around 1,500 people even fled across the border into Thailand during the operation.
Fraud centers such as KK Park are mushrooming in Myanmar’s border areas where there is minimal supervision due to the long-standing conflict.Thousands of people are reportedly victims of human trafficking, forced to work in online fraud “factories” that lure victims around the world through romance and fake business.
However, some workers also come voluntarily because they are tempted by the luxurious facilities provided for crime bosses and high-income staff.
Residents around the Myanmar-Thailand border reported hearing sporadic explosions since the demolition operation began, although the junta’s claims could not be independently verified by AFP.
A number of observers believe that the junta’s steps are seen as more of an image effort than comprehensive law enforcement.Myanmar’s military is said to be walking a “thin rope”, trying to ease international pressure, especially from China, without seriously disrupting the sources of income of the militia groups that were its allies in the civil war.
China, which is one of the main supporters of the junta, is increasingly furious because many of its citizens have become victims and perpetrators in this fraud network. In February, pressure from Beijing resulted in around 7,000 fraud workers being repatriated from Myanmar.
Thailand also blocked cross-border internet access to suppress the activities of these fraud centers.
The Myanmar military first announced the KK Park raid on October 19, shortly after the investigation
AFP
revealed that these centers are actually continuing to grow. The report suggests mass installation of Starlink satellite internet receivers to avoid blocking Thailand’s network.
Responding to these findings, Starlink’s parent company, SpaceX, stated that it had cut off signals to more than 2,500 satellite terminals around areas suspected of being the location of fraudulent operations in Myanmar.
This destruction step is one of the junta’s most open actions in cracking down on cybercrime, although its effectiveness and sincerity are still being questioned by the international community.
