One-horned Javan rhinoceros
(Rhinoceros Sondaicus) named Musofa died at the Translocation site, Ujung Kulon National Park (TNUK), Sumur District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten.
The male Javan rhinoceros died after being moved to the Javan Rhino Study and Conservation Area (JRSCA), a translocation site in Legon Pakis.The transfer was carried out together with the TNUK Hall, TNI AD and TNI AL.Transportation uses trucks and Kapa K-61 amphibious vehicles belonging to the TNI.

The capture and transfer of Musofa was carried out by a joint team using a trap called Pit Trap on 03 November 2025. Musofa was captured for the purpose of preserving the Javan rhinoceros which is now critically endangered.
After being caught using a Pit Trap trap, the TNUK Center revealed that the one-horned rhinoceros was in good health and not stressed.
“Musofa was moved without any wounds or injuries, but a long-standing chronic illness has become a medical challenge that cannot be overcome,” said Head of the TNUK Center, Ardi Andono, in his official statement, Thursday (27/11/2025).
Musofa who entered the Pit Trap trap on November 3, 2025, was then moved to
JRSCA Translocation site on November 5 2025.
According to Ardi, Musofa’s rhinoceros was in stable condition at that time.He was observed and received medical treatment.
Even though his health was observed and treated, his condition deteriorated on November 7 2025 until he died in the afternoon.
Necropsy or surgery on the animal to determine the cause of death.Necropsy results found wounds on his body as well as chronic diseases of the stomach, intestines, brain, significant numbers of parasitic infections, as well as signs of tissue degeneration.
“All procedures are carried out in accordance with international conservation standards, with simulations, ethical assessments, as well as logistical and security readiness,” he explained.
