Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf alias
Mualem
said he could not hold back tears when giving the latest picture of the handling of the flood and landslide disasters that hit
Aceh
, last Saturday (29/11).
Mualem said the floods and landslides in Aceh a few days ago were like a second tsunami that devastated settlements and wiped out a number of villages.
According to him, around 4 villages were lost due to flash floods and landslides, such as villages in the Sawang area, Jambo Aye in North Aceh and villages in the Peusangan area, Bireuen.

“There were several villages that disappeared somewhere, namely Sawang, Jambo Aye in North Aceh, Peusangan in Bireuen, that night 4 villages also didn’t know where they were. So Aceh is now like a second tsunami,” said Mualem while crying during the Disaster Recovery Team Call which was held at the Sultan Iskandar Muda Airstrip (SIM), last weekend.
For this reason, Mualem emphasized that handling the flood and landslide disasters that hit 18 districts/cities in Aceh must be carried out quickly, in a measured manner, and without pause.
Accelerating the opening of land access is a top priority to ensure logistics immediately reach the community, especially in isolated villages.
“Our duty is to serve those affected. There must be no pause in humanity in the field,” said Mualem.
The latest situation after the landslide floods in Aceh, Monday (1/12), a number of logistical aid and equipment for refugee camps has started to enter isolated areas such as Central Aceh, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues and Aceh Tamiang Regencies.
The scale of aid is still small because access to isolated areas is currently only possible by air and land roads are still cut off.
The government is now speeding up the construction of a bailey bridge in Bireuen – North Aceh so that mobility for distributing aid can use land routes.
“The Bireuen-North Aceh connectivity has found a solution. Construction of the Bailey bridge has started today. The target is three days for completion and it can be passed,” said Aceh Regional Secretary, M. Nasir, Sunday (30/11).
The latest BNPB data records that Aceh’s floods and landslides resulted in 96 deaths as of Monday (1/12).
