which is on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies, East Java, blew out white smoke as high as 500 meters to 1,000 meters from the peak on Monday.
“Visual observation of the volcano was clear until it was covered in 0-II fog. Observed white smoke from the main crater with moderate intensity, rising around 500-1000 meters from the peak,” said Mount Semeru Observation Post Officer Mukdas Sofian in a written report received in Lumajang, Monday.

For Mount Semeru’s seismic activity during the last six hours on Monday at 00.00-06.00 WIB, 44 earthquake eruptions were recorded with an amplitude of 10-22 mm, and an earthquake duration of 64-147 seconds.
“Mount Semeru also experienced one gust of earthquake with an amplitude of 8 mm, and an earthquake duration of 52 seconds, then three distant tectonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 3-30 mm, S-P 39 seconds and an earthquake duration of 51-284 seconds,” he said.
He explained that Mount Semeru had Level IV or Watch status, so the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) made a number of recommendations that the public should not carry out any activities in the southeast sector along Besuk Kobokan as far as 20 kilometers from the peak.
Beyond this distance, he said, people are also asked to stay away from river borders at least 500 meters because the potential for hot clouds and lava can still occur.
“The public is also asked not to carry out activities within an eight kilometer radius of the crater of Mount Semeru considering the potential danger of throwing incandescent rocks,” he said.
Apart from that, vigilance needs to be increased regarding the potential for hot cloud avalanches, lava flows and lahars along the rivers that originate from the peak of Semeru, especially Besuk Kobokan, Besuk Bang, Besuk Kembar, Besuk Sat, as well as small rivers that are their tributaries.
Based on officers’ records, Mount Semeru erupted again on Monday, November 24 2025, at 03.04 WIB and no visual eruption was observed, however the eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm and a duration of 142 seconds.
