on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies, East Java, it erupted again with an eruption height reaching 1.2 kilometers above the peak on Sunday (21/12).

He said the eruption of the highest mountain on the island of Java was recorded as still ongoing while the report was being made by officers.
Based on data, the eruption of Mount Semeru was recorded six times on Sunday from 00.26 WIB to 06.00 WIB with varying eruption heights.
Currently, Mount Semeru is at Level III or Alert status, so the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation has made a number of recommendations, namely that people should not carry out any activities in the southeastern sector along Besuk Kobokan, as far as 13 km from the peak (center of the eruption).
Beyond this distance, people do not carry out activities within 500 meters of the river bank (river border) along Besuk Kobokan because they have the potential to be affected by the expansion of hot clouds and lava flows up to a distance of 17 km from the peak.
“The public is also prohibited from carrying out activities within a 5 km radius of the crater/top of Semeru Volcano because it is prone to the danger of throwing rocks (incandescent),” he said.
He also asked the public to be aware of the potential for hot clouds, lava avalanches and lahars along rivers/valleys that originate at the peak of Semeru Volcano, especially along Besuk Kobokan, Besuk Bang, Besuk Kembar and Besuk Sat as well as the potential for lahars in small rivers which are tributaries of Besuk Kobokan.
