Flood of lava from
Mount Lewotobi Male
which occurred on Wednesday (3/12) resulted in two villages namely Klatanlo and Dulipali in Wulanggitang District, East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (
NTT
) affected.
“The lava flow impacted Klatanlo Village and Dulipali Village, Wulanggitang District, East Flores,” citing a Special Report issued by the Geological Agency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Acting Head of the Geological Agency, Lana Saria, said that the lava flood which originated from the peak of Mount Lewotobi Laki began to occur and was recorded at 05.17 WIT and only ended at 06.36 WITA.

He said that based on the monitoring of officers at the Volcano Observation Post (PPGA) in Pululera Village, it showed that the mountain was covered in fog and the crater smoke was not observed.However, the roar of the lava flow could be heard up to three kilometers away.
“Temporary impacts observed in the field were that the Maumere-Larantuka highway was blocked because it was covered in mud and lava material, 3 houses in Dulipali Village were seriously damaged, and 1 house in Klatanlo Village was buried in 40 cm of mud,” he said.
This incident also caused the electricity network to be cut off due to the collapse of several electricity poles in Dulipali Village.
Until this news was published, the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki was still set at Level IV (WARNING) with recommendations from the public and tourists not to carry out activities within a radius of six kilometers and seven kilometers northwest, northeast of the eruption center.
“Apart from that, communities around disaster-prone areas should be aware of the potential for lava floods if heavy rain occurs, especially in river basins that originate at the peak of Mt. Lewotobi Laki, such as in Nawakote, Dulipali, Nobo, Hokeng Jaya, to Nurabelen,” he said.
