In addition, the Banten Regional Police appealed to the public to increase awareness of the potential for extreme weather.
Meryadi said weather conditions could change quickly so official information needed to be continuously monitored.
“BMKG predicts that the weather in Banten Province today will be predominantly sunny, cloudy to cloudy in the morning, but light rain has the potential to occur in a number of sub-districts,” he said.
According to BMKG, there is potential for light rain during the day in a number of sub-districts in Serang, Cilegon, Pandeglang, Lebak and South Tangerang.Apart from that, BMKG recorded wind speeds of 5-35 km/hour and humidity of 60-95 percent which also influenced weather dynamics.
The Banten Regional Police also highlighted an early warning for moderate waves of 1.25-2.5 meters in the South Pandeglang Waters, Pandeglang West Sunda Strait and Lebak South Waters.
“We remind coastal residents, fishermen and tourists to pay attention to safety,” said Meryadi.
The Banten Regional Police also emphasized safety guidelines that the public can follow, starting from monitoring BMKG information, preparing emergency bags, to postponing outdoor activities during heavy rain.
“Stay indoors except for urgent needs. Avoid taking shelter under trees or poles during lightning,” he advised.
According to Meryadi, residents’ anticipation will help minimize the risk of accidents and fatalities.
“Weather can change quickly. We urge people to postpone non-urgent outdoor activities during bad weather,” he said.
As part of preparedness, the Banten Regional Police has alerted personnel at two Disaster Preparedness Posts equipped with Search and Rescue (SAR) equipment to speed up emergency response.
“Public safety is the main priority. Banten Regional Police continues to coordinate with BMKG and PVMBG to ensure that the information received by the public is accurate and up to date,” said Meryadi.
