The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Central KONI are discussing
National Sports Week
(PON) only competes in special Olympic sports.
Menpora Erick Thohir said that the discourse was discussed with the Chairman of the Central KONI, Marciano Norman, during a meeting at the Central KONI Office, Jakarta, Thursday (4/12).
“There will be a special discussion with the government to tidy things up, especially as there is a breakthrough being made by KONI. I was told earlier that in the future PON will only [hold] Olympic Sports,” said Erick.

However, Erick is aware that holding PON specifically for Olympic sports will result in protests from non-Olympic sports.Therefore, Erick opened another discourse, there is a separate non-Olympic sports event.
It’s just that Erick hasn’t been able to explain this in more detail.Because so far PON has held many sports, Erick guarantees that all sports will have a place to compete.
“What about other sports? They were told, ‘Oh, there will be a Companion Sports Week’. So, what is our position at the Ministry of Youth and Sports?”Erick explained.
“Well, this one hour meeting did not solve the problems we have been facing so far. Instead, we will form a team to have discussions,” he said.
Erick then praised KONI’s steps in developing national sporting events.He also linked this praise to the 21 priority sports of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“I appreciate KONI conveying things that are in line with the government’s wishes. Moreover, the government has started to determine 21 priority sports,” he said.
Marciano welcomed the government’s plan to improve the implementation of national sports.Basically, said Marciano, his party wants to be in line with the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ program.
“We at Central KONI want to increase cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” said Marciano in a press conference after the meeting with the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the Central KONI Office, Thursday (4/12).
