The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs repatriated the bodies of nine Indonesian citizens (
Indonesian citizen
) fire victims at the Wang Fuk Court residential complex, Tai Po,
Hong Kong
, which happened last November.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens together with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Hong Kong have facilitated the repatriation of the bodies of victims of the incident from Hong Kong to Indonesia.
“A total of eight bodies were returned to Indonesia with full funding through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs budget, while one body was paid for by the employer,” wrote the statement, as quoted from a release from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

One of the bodies of the fire victims with the initials N arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, on Sunday (21/12) at 23.00 WIB and was handed over to the family in Indramayu, West Java.
Meanwhile, the bodies of eight other Indonesian citizens are scheduled to arrive in Indonesia in stages from 23 to 25 December.
“Of the nine bodies, one body from West Java and three bodies from Central Java will be repatriated via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten.”
“Meanwhile, five bodies from East Java will be repatriated via Juanda International Airport, Surabaya, East Java, to be handed over to their respective families in their areas of origin,” read the statement.
From 2 to 5 December, the Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens also carried out family engagement activities with the families of the nine victims who died in areas in West Java, Central Java and East Java.
This activity aims to provide an explanation regarding the process of repatriating bodies, fulfilling financial rights, and assisting with document processing.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also appealed to victims’ families and residents to be alert to the potential for inaccurate information or offers of assistance from irresponsible parties.
“We will continue to coordinate with the Hong Kong authorities to ensure that the entire process for resolving the rights of affected Indonesian citizens can be completed appropriately, with dignity and oriented towards the interests of the victims and their families,” wrote the statement.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to carry out comprehensive handling of Indonesian citizens affected by the fire at the Wang Fuk Court residential complex, Tai Po, Hong Kong.
Based on official data from the Fire Service Department (FSD) as of December 9 2025, the incident killed 670 people and at least 79 people were seriously injured.
Of the estimated 140 Indonesian citizens living in the affected area, at least 130 people survived.Meanwhile, at least nine people died and one person has still not been found.
