“However, all decisions remain at the direction of the President,” said Rico when contacted, Wednesday (19/11).
He explained that Indonesia’s current steps are to focus on internal preparations in the Ministry of Defense and TNI, starting from mapping troop needs to logistical readiness and capabilities relevant to the character of stabilization operations which are usually more complex.
Rico said that in line with Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin’s statement, even though the UN had adopted a resolution that opened up the opportunity to deploy international troops, national political decisions remained the determining factor.
“All mechanisms and temporary planning are still at the internal discussion stage of the Ministry of Defense and the TNI, awaiting the President’s decision regarding the timing, form of contribution and scheme of Indonesian involvement,” he said.
Sjafrie previously said that Indonesia was preparing 20 thousand TNI soldiers to be sent as peacekeeping troops in Gaza, Palestine.
He explained that the preparation of the soldiers was in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions. The prepared soldiers are soldiers with health and construction specifications.
“So, in his opinion, we should prepare a maximum of 20,000 soldiers, but the specifications are for health and construction,” said Sjafrie after meeting the Joint Chief of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, Major General Pilot Yousef Ahmed Al-Hunaity at the Ministry of Defense Office, Jakarta, Friday (14/11).
Meanwhile, recently the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) passed a resolution proposing the United States (US) to establish a Peace Council (
Board of Peace
/BoP) in the Gaza Strip as well as deploying the International Stabilization Force (
International Stabilization Force
/ISF) to the enclave.
In voting on Monday (17/11), 13 countries supported the draft resolution.Only Russia and China abstained, without vetoing.
This resolution is said to support the peace plan for Gaza proposed by US President Donald Trump on September 29.One of them is regarding the formation of the BoP “as a transitional government” in Gaza which will be led by Trump.
With this resolution, the BoP was given the authority to form an International Stabilization Force (ISF) which could be deployed under the command of the BoP.Countries wishing to contribute personnel must consult with Egypt and Israel.
