“For disaster areas, we are preparing tents if needed. Apart from that, assistance will be provided with the Indonesian Psychological Association. We are also preparing assistance in the form of school kits,” said Tatang after attending the commemoration of International Disability Day in Sleman, DIY, Wednesday (3/12).
Tatang explained that the tents prepared for emergency schools could also be used as psychological assistance rooms for students. The use of tents will be adjusted to map regional needs.
“The regional government will see what the zone is like. If it is needed for learning or psychological assistance, the tents can be used,” he said.
For children with special needs, the Ministry of Basic Education is also preparing a special approach considering that this group is part of the authority of the Directorate General of Special Education.
Regarding teaching and learning activities (KBM) in disaster areas, Tatang emphasized that this is within the authority of the regional government.Determining whether KBM can run will depend on mapping the vulnerability zones in each region.
“Teaching and learning is the province’s authority for SMA, SLB and SMK. Kindergarten to junior high school is in the districts/cities. Everything really depends on the zone conditions in each region,” said Tatang.
Meanwhile, Minister of Basic Education Abdul Mu’ti said that his party was still mapping the condition of students and school buildings in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra which were affected by floods and landslides.
“We’re still mapping, so we can’t convey it yet. We’ll let you know later when we have it,” said Mu’ti briefly before entering his vehicle.
