Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (
MSMEs
) Maman Abdurrahman revealed that there are no clothes traders yet
import
used or
thrifting
who switched to local products.
He said that his party was still communicating with traders and 1,300 brands that were ready to replace used imported clothes.
“Not yet (some traders have switched to local products). This is still in process. It’s still in the communication process because it’s not that simple. We also have to communicate with fellow trader associations,” said Maman at a press conference for the Public Infrastructure and KUR Financing Coordination Meeting at Ayana Mid Plaza, Jakarta, Thursday (27/11).

Maman emphasized that the government was not closing the tap on imports of used goods to limit traders’ economic activities. The Ministry of MSMEs, he continued, is currently encouraging traders to immediately make substitutions so that their economy can continue to move.
Maman said that currently the government is preparing steps to overcome the problem of illegally imported clothes.Consistency is said to be the key to this step.
“We are not consistent in closing the upstream areas. If we are not consistent in closing the upstream areas, something like that will definitely happen.”he said.
He also believes that second-hand imported clothing traders will not lose consumers if they switch to local products. The reason is that when the government consistently closes the entrance to used imported clothes, he continued, the Indonesian market will be clean of these illegal goods.Once the market is clean, local products will flood the domestic market.
“Like it or not, the public, he needs clothes, needs trousers, needs shoes, needs sandals. Like it or not, he will definitely look (for local products). So, this is what we do,” said Maman.
Previously, Deputy for Small Business at the Ministry of UMKM, Temmy Satya Permana, said that the 1,300 brands would establish a business to business (B2B) scheme with second-hand imported clothing traders.
Traders, said Temmy, can become resellers or distributors of these products.
“We prepared 1,300
brands
to be chosen by sellers, used clothing traders in Senen and Gedebage and others.”Just for them to do B2B with the brand owners,” said Temmy when met at the Smesco Building, South Jakarta, Tuesday (18/11).
These local products will later be sold per package, such as second-hand imported clothes bought by traders per balpres.
“How much is one bale on average? Usually it varies. There are packages of type A, type B, type C. It’s between Rp. 5 million, Rp. 3 million, Rp. 2 million. Now we also want friends
brands
“This local area also wants to make a package like that,” he said.
